Might be a tad overwhelming for this size chair. As for the style maybe some sort of Louis XVI wingback????? Just a guess.

It's always difficult to envision the end product. Make sure that you pick a print or fabric that will hold up AND you will still love 10 years from now. :)

You don't say what other furniture will be in the room. Colors?

Still working it all out, but a neutral/cream couch, wood coffee table, and a wood tv stand! Neutral roman shades and some plants.

I think that you should keep the fabric more in tune with the era of the chair. The above fabric is too modern and busy. Look at fabrics like this (reason I asked for you current color palate)

Thank you Susan! These are lovely. My main concern was the print going with the style of the chair (although I really want some kind of a print!).

I am curious about the other furniture styles in the room. This chair is either French or Victorian. Either way the heavy wood top rail is a very formal style and the lines are very curved. It may not be good with square linear furniture. If it works style wise and you like it a lot why not do a bright color solid from the print like the blue or tone on tone or solid pattern in blue with texture and make pillows for the sofa out of the pattern?

The other furniture in the room will be more transitional and simple - the style of chair really doesn't go with our other things, but it was my grandma's and I really want to make it work - which is why I want to try to freshen it up with a new fabric. Another alternative will be to have it in my dressing room upstairs, which won't have much other furniture besides a small vanity. It's my first house, budget is limited, and it will be a bit of a hodge-podge for a while :-) I really like the idea of doing the bright solid pattern.

Go bold! In a neutral room, a bright pattern would make a lovely statement, particularly with colors that inspire you. I love the juxtaposition of old and new...a modern fabric on a period chair...marvelous! (FYI, Kate, I believe I've seen the matching loveseat in person!)

Kate, I am sending a few more patterns that I think would work if you want to modernize the chair a bit. I did my bar stools in an animal pattern for a touch of "wild" and I love them.

The pattern seems to large for the style. Susan2494 first selection woul look gorgeous, a cotton velveteen, or a smaller print.

I say go for it. I think it would love fabulous. But if you're still hesitating, try a zebra or leopard print.
