Phil's Hill

Since this is starting to look like something I thought it should have a name. I am calling it Phil's Hill in honor of the beloved 'Freak'. The front has a Fragrant Bouquet, 10 Sagae, 3 Liberty, one Victory and a patch of noIDs. The hill has 3 badly eaten Weeping Blue Nootkatensis, Foxtail BS, Golden Norway Spruce.

New Paradigm in front of painfully slow growing Ogon Redwood. It just glows, but I don't know why it isn't growing.

On Stage on the left side of the hill.

Shed which is the reason for the hill. Foxtail Blue Spruce.

About 15 feet high from the back side. Obviously a lot of room to play around. 3 more Sagae from last Fall. noIDs top left, JM to the right out of sight and some Japanese ferns.....Ravine off to the right

I hope it is not to presumptuous to use Phil's name, but it is my way of remembering him.

Jon

Phil was a great guy, he got down on himself towards the end, but never let that stop him from having something good to say. I hope someone with ability has taken over his hillside garden which should truly be a living memorial to him.

What a lovely thing to do, Jon! I'm sure you'll create a beautiful memorial to honor Phil. Gorgeous setting.

DD, I thought you were about to say I was going to build a beautiful memorial to myself; whew!

Agreed. Lovely way to honor someone like Phil whose wonderful gardens we all adored, much the same way we adored him!

Ken on left & Phil on right (his forum handle was hostafreak).

    Phil passed Dec. 4, 2014.

He had a wonderful mountain woodland garden and shared many pics of it with us.

Thanks dgregory. I just found this forum last summer and remember the name and pics of his beautiful garden now. I wasn't on during the winter and didn't hear of his passing. Hosta heaven must be slug free and he is smiling down on us.

Mountainyman, I am on the lookout for a green ginger jar.

I'm sure Phil is missed by his family and friends and I know he is missed by his extended family here.

What a nice sentiment. Great idea to add a ginger jar if you find one. I always like seeing a successful hillside garden, and it gives you lots more space for hostas.

You have me wondering two things. If the trees were badly eaten will the hostas suffer the same fate? Deer, I'm guessing?

And why is the hill due to the shed? Is it from moving the dirt to make a level space for it? I really like (want:) your shed. It has a wonderful rustic look to it, and looks like it belongs there in your woods.

What a nice thought, Jon. The hill needed a name, didn't it and you chose well. Ten Sagaes, 3 Libertys, a Victory...I'm sure Phil is pleased and that Ginger Jar will be the crowning touch.

So nice, Jon! I have only been here for about a year but I think I remember his favorite was Sagae, right? I added a Sagae to my garden this spring, his posts were on my mind at the time.

Jon, A hill named after a GW friend. Phil, would have been honored. It's very pretty btw. I love the cabin. Is that near Area 51? WW
