The wall looks better than the side of the fridge would so learn to live with it.

I have the same type of thing with my fridge only the wall turns my dining room into an L shaped room, but it provides more counter space and makes the kitchen much more user friendly. I actually like the small wall as I found a great panoramic photo frame to hang vertically there that adds a lot of personality to the room.

The wall might solve itself as you begin to make the kitchen more your own style. What style would you like your kitchen? What kind of wood are your cabinets? I think this is a great wall for some art or a gallery wall and keep the same style. If you like farmhouse or cottage I would have some other suggestions like pewter trays or antique plates or a narrow plate rack with ironstone platters - then you would need to work that look into your kitchen too.
