Our new lake house

Can you help with the height of the mantle for our fireplace. The fireplace is 6' wide by 13' tall with a 9 1/2" hearth. We're planning on putting a 60" tv above the mantle and we are using a 7 1/4" piece of reclaimed lumber.

Just wait until everyone on here tells you no on the t.v. Over the fireplace..I say do what works for you

whats the reason to not put TV over FP?

A number of reasons, ranging from viewing angle (should almost always be lower), to possible damage to the set if you actually use your fireplace. If you're building a new house, then hopefully you can design it with enough space on at least one side of your fireplace to let you put the TV over a console, which will give you a place for your components and also allow you to put art over your fireplace instead.

Depends on how rustic your stone will be, but a tv can look out of place.

Photos I've seen with smooth tiles, modern room it looks better... what do you think?

What height feels comfortable to you? With a high ceiling you need a taller mantle but don't overdo the height. TV needs to be about 6" above mantle. If TV is too high it will not be comfortable to watch. The MOST important issue is the mantle MUST be the right height, 54-60" would be good but must work for you.
