So you're at the beginning of a reno? Thank goodness! It should be scruptuous! Using the 2 potlight connections over the sink, drop a couple of lights over the sink. Changing some cabinet doors to glass will provide the option of lighting the cabinet interiors. A few well-chosen cabinets will be sufficient. All of them would be too much. Hidden lights under the cabinets can be subtly done. The type of light will determine light tone. Uncluttering the top of the cabinets and putting hidden lights on the top will reflect off the ceiling no matter what color it is. (It doesn't have to be white.)

This entire kitchen is being gutted in two weeks!

Sounds like a fun kitchen redo. For the Tuscan look, you cannot go wrong using a pair of lantern style fixtures either glass bells or metal lanterns. A smaller compatible light fixture could go over the sink. Look at the light pieces from Curry & Company online, #9035, 9045, 9046, 9184 (compatible 9183). Once you know what you are looking for, you will see many examples on the Houzz site of talented designers using these. Have fun eating out for a month.

I agree with the other posters: use drop pendants over the sink, instead of those recessed fixtures - you will get a much softer light over the sink that way. Having said that though, I think it would also be nice to play up that ceiling line. Perhaps you could add a couple of uplights approximately where your current recessed fixtures are. Then you could use one larger pendant over the sink (you might have to build a flat area in at the apex so that it looks like it's hanging from the center) If that isn't feasible, perhaps very small spots on the top corners of your cabinets would work.

Definitly use under- and over- cabinet lighting. Adding a few glass doors and lighting those cabinets would add another layer.

Also, I like the lantern idea, and it would really go with your theme. Another reason this would work well is that you have so much volume of space, you can really use something large to go over the island. I would do two or three, depending upon their size. Do not mtach the different types of fixtures - a mix is the most interesting. Good luck wit your renovation!

it's great that you have a theme idea for your new kitchen! i wouldn't worry about the lighting until you choose other elements, like countertops and cabinets. then you will be able to choose the lighting more effectively.
and you never know what you will find behind the walls and in the ceiling..
we made some alterations because of what we found.

To keep your lighting cohesive with your Tuscan style, look for fixtures that have wrought iron or bronzed metal embellishments and frosted amber toned glass shades....

i agree with pberk..wrought iron would be perfect. you can decorate more with other features like curtains or tiles, but the light would be permanent so you want something you can live with that compliments the rest of your kitchen.

oh and when can we all come and visit? LOL :)

How about changing the peak over the sink to a curve that matches the window? Then you could do a single suspended fixture over the sink.
