First, you want to make the posts of the porch much more substantial and Craftsman-like. Perhaps you can even extend the front porch to make the posts an attractive focal point. Construct their base with brick and add substantial trim in cream color. Paint the shutters the same color. Add picket-fence style banister between the posts. I would keep the color light - taupe or light yellow. A larger front door with side lights or square/rectangular glass up high would be good. It needs a visual presence!

Remove the clumpy shrubs, widen the steps, beef up the posts. Here are a couple of craftsman palettes for you.

This house has a lot of potential! I like Shelton Interiors ideas...I would also like to see the front porch extended. The stairs seem lonely. A nice open and bigger patio with a walk would open it up and give your entrance an "entrance." Your home has a nice country setting, I would paint the brick and stick to earth tone colors. I think that it would be cool to incorporate the woods that you have behind your home and do some bigger columns using barn wood beams or some natural resource!

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't believe the budget will allow for us to extend the porch or paint the brick though I completely agree with those suggestions. We will definitely "beef" up the posts. I think adding posts at the bottom of the steps with a handrail will give the steps more of a presence. We are planning on a door similar to what decoenthusiaste showed except possibly more glass since it opens into a foyer. We are considering a light creme (downplaying the existing yellow tone) for the trim or a sand color. We were also considering black board-n-batten shutters and door if we did not stain the front door. Any opinions on using black?
