Sorry I have no advice other than to ask neighbors and friends for someone they have been happy with or see if anyone on the trees forum has a recommendation. If you know any woodworkers, they may be interested in the wood. Waxing the ends (such as melted and thinned parafin) keeps it from cracking until it can be worked.

If you want it removed, anyone will do. If you want it pruned it's going to be expensive. How big is it? If you want an Arborist check the Mass Arborist Association or the RI one.

I'd hate to remove it, but it needs to be trimmed quite a lot. It's about 30 feet.

I've found that I've gotten a lot of great recommendations from my local nursery that has extensive display gardens. From tree work, to rock work, to design, etc......if you have a nursery like that nearby maybe they know the decent companies in that industry?

I had almost forgotten about a company that I used about five years ago. They removed a very large, old maple tree and did a good job. Someone will be here tomorrow to give me a quote.
