We are building this spring and I am thinking of doing pearl gray. When I look at the James Hardie sample it looks like it has a pink hue? But when I look at all your pictures on here I don't see that. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Lonirae I dont see any pink at all. I took a pic where the sun was setting on the side of the house which obviously does make the siding look different. If you dont see pink in that one then there isn't any. The sun hasnt really been out by me recently but when it is I will grab a couple more shots that are not gloomy or when sun is setting.

I'm considering black shingles with white windows and trim and then doing pearl gray in my peaks and Aged Pewter on the bottom half of our house. I have a window in each of my two my peaks and I am thinking of putting black shutters on them.

Love the choices. The black white grey look very sharp. Plus at least by me no one has that combo so the house stand out even more.

Sal - I love your selections! We are considering Pearl Gray for a home we are building as well, and haven't yet found a stone we like. I know you said they dyed the brick in the field, but is your stone a custom color as well?

Thanks Kara. We couldn't find an engineered brick we liked so we were going to have them possibly dye those when it's all done but decent chance we leave it as is since it's growing on us. We love the stone especially with the black shutters and windows. The stone we used is Fond-du-lac Country Squire White. We are really struggling between Pearl Gray or Gray Slate for the lap siding. Would like to do Iron Gray for the peaks in the shake siding. Love the looks of pearl gray, but wonder if it's going to be too light. Not sure which would go best with the iron gray.

Really depends how much of a contrast you are looking for from the peaks. Want more you go with Pearl, less you go with the Slate. You can really go wrong as you can see from the pics in this thread all the hardies grays look good with the white trim and some sort of black (roof, shutters, windows, etc).

Yes, we are doing white trim and a black roof. I just wanted to make sure Pearl even went with the Iron?

I think it will go and make a nice contrast since the pearl is lighter.

This has been an interesting conversation - we decided on Slate Gray over Pearl Gray. Reason being that our roof is a neutral brown/gray (Weathered Wood) with blue and yellow flecks. I like how it changes when viewed from different angles and in different light, sometimes looking greenish, other times bluish, or a clean, neutral off-white in full sun. Pearl Gray is also nice but when compared against the other lightest colours in the hardie collection, it has a purplish/pinkish cast. It would be very nice with stone or brick with pink or blue undertones. I would avoid using it near anything with yellow or green undertones.

I was concerned that the pearl gray would read brown in certain light but all the pictures online look like a nice bright gray and I don't see it as brown. The sample we got looked grayish-brown but maybe that's because I'm comparing it to the light mist. I really want a nice crisp gray color. The light mist looks like it would be too light and not pop well against the artic white. Any insights? Our house has a farm house look to it and will be all board and batten across the entire front of the house. We also thought about going all white with an antique brick skirt and just letting the architectural features speak for themselves.

Here are a couple of pics of our board and batten home painted Light Mist. No pics of the complete front yet because it's unfinished waiting on porch ceiling completion. The trim color is a color match to Marvin Windows 'Stone White' factory finish.

Love the board and batten and they did a really nice job on yours with the trim piece across the middle. I was planning to do that also but the builder discouraged me. Love the stone white trim color also!

Charles Potts - my architect discouraged me on the horizontal trim piece also. I looked at a ton of pics online with and without it, and it became very clear to me that the "seam" would bother me. So I overruled him and I'm so glad I did.

Thanks Jim! We went with black garage doors and they go great with the black windows. The front door was jacobean stain from minwax. You wont regret the black windows we get compliments about them all the time. I did get sod laid and some landscaping late in the year so I will be sure to post some finished pics for those that want to see the finished product once it gets nicer by me.

Adding to this thread...we are considering Pearl Gray or Aged Pewter as well. We will also have black sashes and mullions on our windows and stonework. The stone reads warmer tone, so it will be interesting to see which one we like best when we see it in person this week.

We are building a house with Pearl Grey. We are deciding on roof color now and we are torn between certainteed colors: Driftwood, weathered wood, cobble stone grey amd granite grey. If anyone has pics or thoughtscan you please send!

Bernadette, the pics I posted above show a driftwood roof... it's a combination of brown and gray.

@dcw0405, same… (even older thread now!). Our windows and doors are sierra pacific black sable, which have a navy cast to them. I was looking at the new magnolia collection stone beach but was told the magnolia colors cost 30% more! Would love to see pics of pearl gray lap siding with dark windows.
