Dark hallway

I have a dark hallway with no outside light coming in. Would like any ideas for how to lighten it up.

You could change that ceiling fixture to a track light, with track heads pointing at the artwork on both walls. Or better yet, put the art on only one wall and direct the track lighting toward that wall. The table lamp will provide sufficient light for the other side of the hallway. Replace the artwork that is now on that side with a mirror which will help the lighting situation.

he reason not to have art on both sides is that in a narrow hallway, art on both sides will give you an enclosed feeling and also look too busy.

I think more information is needed to assist you.
1. Let's start with dimensions of the hallway and where does this hallway lead? A bedroom? A bathroom? A closet?
1. Does this hallway require lighting even during the day or just at night?
1. Your home appears to be older, do you want to retain a look for a certain time period or are you wanting to modernize it?
1. What colors do you like? Warm tones, cool tones, an eclectic mix?
1. How often is it used? By many people or just a few? is it a public space or a private space?
1. Is a skylight an option or are you wanting to keep to the basics, i.e. paint, rug, wallpaper, sconces, overhead lighting, etc.

adding an original colorful painting with an inexpensive art light ($25) would be an excellent suggestion - here's some ideas:

Lighter paint would help, along with a brighter ceiling pendant. You could also make a gallery wall on one side with large prints. Let me know if I can source some lighting options for you. Another idea would be grasscloth wallpaper. This adds texture and makes hallways "happy". Email me. I work with any budget.
