A built in desk area in the nook would give you a defined space to focus, or for kids to do homework. I would add built in cabinetry floor to ceiling for storage. In the foreground, a rug with comfy sofas, would be a great place to relax with a good book, but not be too far away from the action in the kitchen below. The railing overlooking the space below is a beautiful feature that promotes social interaction between levels, so I would make the space next to it for informal interaction as well.

I think it can be office and reading nook. Put a bench seat with storage inside under the window. A bookcase can go on the short wall opposite the kitchen overlook, and a desk can go on the right side. You have plenty of outlets for computer and lighting. Pinup wall sconces flanking the window would be pretty. Another thought would be to place an open desk or table and chair at the railing. That would leave room for a reading chair and floor lamp inside the nook.
