My theory has always been that if you buy pieces you love they will all work together. There are exceptions but I've had more success than failure with that approach. The key, I think, is to recognize the difference between what you love and what "will do." Patience is also helpful because it might take a long time to find the perfect piece. You said you love the rug, and it works with the floors (which are beautiful), so keep it. Since it's from PB, if you don't like it, return it.

The pictures on this site and in magazines should give you ideas for your home but not set an unrealistic bar for you to try and achieve. Don't forget that many of the articles on this site mention that the owner(s) worked with a designer/decorator/architect so they have a leg up on achieving perfection. Plus, even those homes are staged before they are photographed professionally. Growing up in L.A., I've had the pleasure of many coincidental celebrity sightings and one thing those have taught me is that there is a reason they give technical awards for hair, lighting and make-up. Perfection is a professional team effort and most mere mortals will fall short. Tell yourself what you would tell a 14 year old girl lamenting that she didn't look like the model on the cover of Glamour/Vogue/etc; It's not real for 99 percent of the population so be yourself.

Lighten-up on yourself and trust that you will create a comfortable home that reflects your personal style.

So I came back to update..the flooring still hasn't been installed. Can you believe that? The installer is very nice guy, and seems genuine, perhaps he's truly busy, no doubt, but don't tell me it'll be done in two weeks, and now it's been more than a month!

When purchasing a new home it is often helpful to hire an interior designer, not decorator, to help you navigate through some of these difficult decisions.
A professional designer will save you tons of money and prevent expensive design mistakes.
People have a huge misconception, they can't afford a designer, but yet buying things without a true design plan in place often leads to expensive mistakes and wrong choices. A designer works with your budget, sources things at wholesale prices and comes up with a step by step plan for you.
Maybe you don't need a rug right now. Get the floors installed and see how you like them.
Purchase some key pieces first then add the accessories as you can afford.

I don't care how many people she helps, she behaves like an ass, and almost like she's looking for trouble. What's the point of that? you shouldn't make excuses for people who behave that way.

We have had real trolls on Houzz, sometimes scarey. Houzz takes them off . She would not have survived this long if she were in that category. Try not to let it worry you.

I think Houzz has gotten rough with criticism (both about people's homes and on a personal level). I've had tons of dilemmas in the past, but not sure I'd be brave enough to start any new ones with the current state of Houzz.

It's sad, is what it is. People have feelings.

Looks like things may have gone full circle...like I always jump the gun...then comes the guilt...

Exactly what is fun about someone being trashed when not called for.

Your floors are beautiful! You made a wonderful decision when you chose them. Give yourself a real pat on the back. From the picture, the table and design is beautiful. The pictures in magazines are all styled and edited before they are taken. When you have a picture taken professionally you also try to look your best. It's reality...but not everyday living.

Designers do this for a living. They are used to seeing tons of choices and narrowing them down and making decisions. But they really need the client to help them make it right. This is your home and you make it wonderful by being in it. There's no amount of design that can do that. Haven't you seen lots of design pictures that you would never want? That's someone else's dream. Enjoy your lovely room and fill it with family and friends....then it will be perfect!
