So, about a month ago we bought a house with a koi pond. The only instructions we got were to feed them. Yikes. It is surrounded my many plants and has plants in the pond as well. I have absolutely no clue how to clean it and it's got a ton of green algae on the bottom and on the rocks where the waterfall is. I can't even say what type of filter we have! It is a box filter that doesn't look like any of the ones I've seen online. There is a pump attached to it. From the back of it (it is covered with a giant flat rock) it has a pipe/tube covered in mesh and secured around it, this is the pipe from the pump. In front of that is a large mesh bag on a square frame and in front of that is a frame with 4 large brushes attached vertically. Does this ring a bell with anyone? The water is clear, but it is running slow and I know that's not a good thing. On the waterfall side it looks like there are rocks (like lava rocks?) covered with a mesh piece of material inside that box. I know that the woman that previously owned the house said that it was really easy to clean and that it didn't take much effort all year round. She has had it for 10 years. I really don't want to mess it up, but I really have no clue how to start. We don't have the finances at this point (just bought the house!) to hire a pond person to come out and do it for us (i am assuming this is probably more expensive to do than doing it myself, ha!) Anyway, if anyone has any tips for me or could point me in the right direction I would be SO grateful! And so would the fish :) Thanks!
