I would go with gray glass subway tile as it will work nicely with the gray in your granite.

If you want to go with a white, try to find an oatmeal color as to go with the light color in your granite that is more an oatmeal color.

Buy samples of whatever you're thinking of using so you can see how it looks with the granite. I like to lay the tile on granite in bright light so I can see the colors more clearly. They don't have to match perfectly but you want them to have the same underlying tone or hue so they look right together.

Where can I get samples?

Try a regular flooring store as they have tile. I'm not sure if they can get the smaller tile for backsplashes. If they can't, see if there's a tile store in your town. Another option is ordering tile online. There's only one problem with that. Most shipping companies won't unload the tile so you have to do it yourself. Small sheets of tile for a backsplash isn't that heavy, but I would do that only as a last resort.

Your elements are very traditional. Go with a simple tan subway in a 3 x 6 size, glossy or matte.

I'd match white subway tile to your cabinet color. I'd pick ceramic and not glass. Search white glass subway and there are many variations in color. With your floor I wouldn't want to open up a can of worms with glass...

Cabinets are bright white so would I have to do white tile or could I do a softer white or almond color to try and compliment the darker colors of the granite/floor?

It might make a difference how much tile/ what else is around?

I would be doing the whole kitchen (the picture above is the butler's pantry which is just off the kitchen) and butler's pantry. Family room with dark hardwoods is just off the kitchen with a two story stone fireplace. Stainless appliances and ornamental granite (as shown)

So, there's shiny /and rough rock surfaces... maybe suggested soft color/ slight shine of uniform subway tiles...? don't detract from the rest....

You can register online for the Daltile website and view the complete line, including subway tiles. I think they will send you samples. Some of the online sites let you upload your photo and then try on different tiles.

I would go to a store and get samples from what they have in stock, if that is possible. I've seen people on Houzz freaking out because the sample doesn't match the stone/tile.

Good Tile stores will let you bring home cards of sample tiles like I posted above. I would definitely not do bright white - you want to complement not match the cabinets . I did soft white subway tiles everywhere in kitchen but then used the glass tiles you see in the above post behind the stovetop

I found a pearl white I was liking today. Agreed the bright white is way too matchy and overpowering with the white cabinets. Wish I could replace but not in the budget so trying to style up around it. How about pearl white (soft white) with a darker grout color (grey)?? I love the look of it in some of the threads I've seen on here- think that will be too busy with the floors/granite?

Not sure about the grout being darker unless you want to draw the eye to it when you walk in the kitchen. Perhaps a softer grey/white grout
