Or a long shot: asking the Armstrong floor company if they can have this manufactured for you, or contacting other linoleum manufacturers like Forbo in Switzerland or Johnsonite.

Or a longer shot: see if you can contact the set designers for shows or films set in the 1920s/30s (like Bill Groom for the HBO show Boardwalk Empire) and see who their resources were.

There's a store that sells vintage textiles in New York: Secondhand Rose. A few years ago, the shopkeeper carried vintage linoleum-but it is no longer on her site (www.secondhandrose.com); I assume she ran out of inventory. Maybe contact her and see if she has any ideas on sourcing it. (On another note, she does carry wallpaper from that era.)

I just pulled up brown 1960 linoleum not a few years ago, whole thing in rough shape-- dry, brittle, cracking.. Just a mess. What are your doing by the way...?

Which backing? The black paper or the 1/4in wood like stuff? I am trying to recreate the original kitchen, or at least considering it. I spoke to the owner who said the green tile was original (seem right as the pine under it was never finished even though it is a finish floor -- there is a sub floor under it).

Humm. I have never seen black paper that had asbestos. It is just roofing paper as far as I can tell.

Here's my in law's house I updated for a rental. Pulled up carpet glued and put down linoleum. I like it better than your green!

I disagree that it is better. Original is best, but I do like your look.

eBay, Etsy and Craigslist might be a resource too. The things I keep finding are the vinyl tiles from the late 50's through the 70's, not original 30's linoleum...close, but no cigar.
Is it possible that the pine underneath was the original, and someone came in 25 years later, sanded it down then installed vinyl tiles?

The pine is the original but the linoleum was added when new (or very shortly after it was new).

A user named "Abestorama" (!) has a flickr collection that shows all sorts of flooring...your lighter green really looks like the Johns-Manville Terraflex Vinyl in #915, Parrot Green (wrong era though-this is from 1959):

The flickr photos are lighter than your floor-I don't know if these tiles would have darkened with age.

Another tip for dating the floor: in the 20's and 30's, it seems the linoleum patterns were more intricate: flower patterns and mosaics seemed to be popular. There were marbleized floors too-but it seems during that era, the floor was laid in a checkerboard pattern, with a border of a different pattern/color around the perimeter of the room, which is why i think your floor dates later.

Have you pried up the floorboards around the perimeter of the room to see if there's a border? If there is, the manufacturer might be Congloleum-Nairn:

You also would want to identify the original tile to make sure that it is not asbestos. Asbestos is safe to leave but when you break it up, it can be harmful. Here is another link to help with that. www.inlayfloors.com...this lady is a linoleum artist based out of Los Angeles. She might be able to reproduce that pattern for you-she does accept custom orders.

According to her "about" page, she has been a principal designer in historic restoration projects.
