Hi Wayne -- For rooms that are visible to one another, take two colors from the previous room into the next as you introduce a new color there, perhaps tossing a few notes of the new color into the last space.

I like to choose a wallpaper pattern for a foyer, then send its colors off in every direction of the house. Keep a sample in your wallet to use while shopping if you do this, and nothing will cross your threshold that doesn't "go." If you don't care for paper, use the same idea starting with a dominant piece of art or rug in your primary space to help direct your color choices.

I agree with what Barnhart Gallery said, I do recommend if you have not already, or don't have one, that looking for a rug in your area be on the list of the first things you do. Unless you want a solid rug, but you want one with color, pattern or design you may want to look at those first. Since you may only fall in love one rug, you can then choose paint color from there, there is an endless array of colors.
