You certainly have enough room for two seating areas, a game table and "library". How do you want to use the space? There are so many possibilities - have fun!

This is our main family room and we do not have a separate living room. I'd like it to be a relaxing, conversational zone. The crazy space will be on the lower level with the air hockey table and etc. We DO love to play board games and thought about a small table but it felt redundant to have a table there since you can see the dining room table (half wall) from the living room and that's where we tend to play them because we have a large eat in kitchen that we use to eat.

You could do four comfy chairs around a round coffee table for conversation only or morning coffee space, etc. Not this style furniture, but the concept.

I did think about that at one point as I LOVE the idea, but I worry that it will overpower the other area and make it difficult to navigate? I'll add a floor plan with chairs in it, opinions would be great!

I haven't even asked about style yet! I'm completely lost on everything - end tables, curtains, etc. All I have are two of these and the credenza that I'm going to use as a media stand with TV mounted on the wall above, though I think I'm going to put hairpin legs on it or larger wheels:

For you credenza, I'd go with tapered wood legs, MCM style. I like the chair you found on overstock. Does it come in other colors? It would be nice to add chairs with color since your sofas are charcoal.

I think the funky chair style/pattern doesn't work well with your sofa and overstock chair. What do you have now that you need to work with? The matching sofas and credenza?

I like those brown chairs! I wonder if that seating arrangement may block the path to those 3 sliding doors those (assuming they are sliding doors not windows)? The chairs from Overstock appear less "bulky" than the ones drawn on your floor plan so maybe it would work.

Would your family enjoy a billards table in that space?

Good call re: the legs. I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of that before. I love MCM but in a warm way. Cozy is what I'm hoping for in that room. I'm fine with mixing styles, we are a vibrant family. :) That said, I'm not hooked on the chevron chair. I found that when I was searching for swivel chairs. We thought we'd have room for two chairs in front of the fireplace but we will not so swivel isn't a must now.

We only have the sofa and the credenza. I'm not hooked on the overstock chair - it was just of the size that I was thinking of. I've seen these also:

I did use the dimensions from the overstock chair for the floor plan. They seem bulky, but they are the measurements.

The door wall is three panes - the middle one is a glass door that opens out. The other two are windows. No slider. Edited to add: we rarely use that door at this point. There is another door to the deck off of the kitchen and we tend to use that one.

A pool table would be fantastic but most likely a terrible idea with multiple teenagers and lots of glass. :)

Would a game table and chairs like this one appeal to you? It's by Bernhardt. There are lots of other pieces to this group, Eaton Square, also. Maybe you'd like the end tables in the group. There are style variations witlhin the group so it isn't too 'matchy'

I don't think the funky chevron chair fits with the room's vibe at all. I think you need something more modern.

I love the idea of a game table, but not sure how to match decor and not feel redundant because it will be a table, with a table right next to it in the other room only split by a half wall.

If I go with a modern style corner chair, do I match the other 4 chairs to it if I bring a 4 chair setting into that room?

Brandy, is the dining room table round? If it''s square, there shouldn't be a problem using a round table nearby.

I think the Bernhardt group I sent you is probably too traditional for you, then. But, I still think a round game table, maybe with a round rug under it, would be different enough from your other table to be suitable. And, you can put the chairs of the game table on the diagonal from the other chairs to differentiate them, also.

I think I'm going to go with the four chair grouping. If anyone comes across comfortable but not overpowering chairs, I'd love to be linked to them! I see a lot of chairs described as aesthetically pleasing but not comfortable. I thought about ikea ektorp chairs (they look cozy but haven't sat in them) but their measurements seem to overpower that space.

Should the chairs be taller/shorter/same height as sofa?

I have sat in every Ikea chair and can attest to the comfort of all of them. This is one thing Ikea does well. Look at the Tullsta for a smaller chair.

You can also get slipcovers for most of Ikea's chairs from Bemz, so if you wanted to go a little wild, you could.

Here's another idea for the table between your four chairs. It's called a hi lo table--this one is by Harden furniture. You can use it as a cocktail table or a game table, depending on the height you set it at. These come in various styles and sizes--just Google 'hi low table"

I decided that I'm going to not use the console. I love it but I think I want a more casual/cozy vibe in the family room. The console will look cool in the basement that's being finished.

Hi Brandy, I really like your credenza as it has a nice vibe to it and not your run of the mill tv stand. How about short, tapered legs that match the wood? Here is a link to furniture leg source..

Darzy, I agree re: the legs for sure. I keep trying to find a way to keep the TV over the fireplace but can't brainstorm a way to hide the cords without making it a large project - this is why I'm moving it to begin with. OK. I'll keep the credenza :)

Tullsta chairs for a 4 chair grouping in the open space? I'm pulling out the extension in my dining room table right now and buying a sisal ( I think?) rug to go under it (we never seat 8 at the table and have seating for 12 in the kitchen). Maybe I'll add a pic and get rug suggestions.

Question: Going to buy some linen curtains today. White/cream or beige? The walls are SW Balanced Beige. The sofa is colored "Truffle" which is a brown/gray, I can't really tell in person if it's a dark brown or dark gray as it almost seems like both.
