Need help with the front of our home!

We recently purchased this home, and it is a blank slate...we want to remove the gate and have an enclosed stucco courtyard, with plantings, perhaps a half circle driveway leading up to the house. Also would like an overhang to protect from the sun while out in the courtyard, and divert the water coming from the scuppers. What are your thoughts? It is in DESPERATE need of some character!

I think the home should be lime washed in white with brown timber accents over the windows & around the scupper openings. I would create the courtyard using a stacked stone wall & insert some type of minimal lighting in the adobe columns at the opening. Add a driveway in crushed stone. The water from the scuppers could fall to a directed gutter that leads to a cistern.

Thanks! This looks great! I love the wood accents to warm it up, and the stone fence to give it some dimension.

I know that many of the homes in your region have higher walls with enclosed courtyards, but your home is so stunning, I just don't think a wall should be built that might hide your home.

I would want to do that too, but not because your house needs hiding, but because it is the style of your type of house. Include a water fountain within the courtyard. You could hang chains from the scuppers to fall into rain barrels. So much you can do with this beautiful home. Also have a pergola installed w/in the courtyard using vigas as shade. Can also use shade cloth to save money.

I love the idea for a water feature, something natural, perhaps stacked flagstone or something like that...We have this gorgeous view of Four Peaks, so we definitely want a nice sitting area out there as well.
