Save my clashing living room!

I love my couch. I love my rug. They don't love each other. I have looked into reupholstering but it's just too much money right now. Alternatively I am thinking about putting down an inexpensive sisal rug and possibly a tan cowhide on top. I would appreciate any ideas that would help bring this all together including windows, art, paint colors, decor. Thank you in advance!

I also love your sofa and your rug! This may sound like a crazy idea but to minimize the pattern on your sofa you could reupholster just the seat cushion in a solid light gold fabric and have matching large pillows of the same fabric made (at least 4 or 5). If you use a similar type fabric that your sofa is now it could look very intentional and would not cost nearly as much as a full redo.

Find some throw pillows with all the colors in them. And good art.

Thanks lynartist, I considered that but I think I'd rather save my money to do the whole thing at once. I have also been thinking of painting the room blue to minimize the number of colors.

No the paint now is good. What you overall budget?

I'd like to find some pieces to the everything together!

    Just an idea:)

I like your wall color very much! Art will help a lot. Solid pillows then till you can reupholster to minimize the pattern. It is a very lovely sofa, worth redoing in my opinion so I would just live with it for awhile then!

You have great taste and I am not entirely disturbed by the clashing. What the room really needs is something over the printed couch. A blue painting could tie the couch and rug together and cool the room down a bit.

Miranda, it depends. I've held off on window treatments due to the clash. For pillows and decorations, I'd like to keep under a few hundred.

    What about art budget?

When I look at these pictures, the rug is the thing that's looking like the odd man out, UNLESS you bring in the red into the pieces or decor. Your two sofa's actually don't look bad with each other, You're heading in the right direction with bringing the gold pillow pillows on the sofa's to tie in the chairs with the design of the room.

    I love those chairs!

Thank DJ. I'm looking into artwork. I was thinking of buying portrait silhouettes in blue.

Thanks Alicia, I think I will look into pillows with some red and blue. Interesting no one thinks the paint color should change. Everything has great sentimental value so I agonize over it. I wish there were a quick fix.

I love the rug in this very beautiful room! It looks wonderful on this old wood floor and with your antique pieces! You have great woodwork and what looks to be a very nice fireplace. Lots of great stuff here..... I've got nothing to complain about here:) I don't think I would cover up those gorgeous windows though, maybe roman shades in a beautiful fabric is all!

Thanks lynartist, you are kind. I was thinking of relaxed roman shades with beige tape to pick up the chair color.

    That sounds perfect!!!

You can sometimes find interesting art at flea markets or consignment shops, even copies of antique maps from your area , framed and matted can make a nice and colorful conversation piece. You don't have to spend a lot of money, just a little time and imagination. Good luck!

Go the The Animal Print Shop website and get a nice print for over the couch. I would change the coffee table out to something like this...I would add this poof somewhere on the rug to tie in yellow somewhere else in the room. A cowhide pillow on one of the chairs...It would be eclectic but I think it could work.

Sorry my tablet went nuts! I didn't mean to spam your post! Only to offer help. If you did a sixteen by twenty of each of these prints above the sofa that could be cute!

Thank you Miranda - those are some cool ideas I never would have considered!

I love your rug and sofas together. All you need is some fabulous finds on your coffee table, and some wall art. And it looks like there is some pillow stealing going on over there. Keep it simple and try the pillows in their original pieces. Jmho
