PLEASE help me! Living Room Conundrum

Hello! I am not creative. PLEASE help me with some ideas on changing my living room. The blankets are on the couch and pillows are in the corner because of my dogs.

I would love to change the flooring, paint, couches, and general wall and mantel decor, but I'm on a budget. I like modern, contemporary, and rustic looks. I've looked at microfiber gray couches, but I'm not sure if that would match. The ceilings are high, so there is lots of wall space. I've tried to take pictures to show the room's layout. The living room and kitchen are separated by a half wall (behind love seat.) The kitchen is a chocolate brown.

Please share your ideas with me. I'm desperate. :(

You have a very nice space to work with.. If we are using what you already have, this is what I would suggest...

Replace mirror above mantel with a painting (mirror isn't reflecting anything of interest)

Put TV on wall adjacent to staircase with a heavy piece of furniture under to hold electronics and equipment (where your floral painting is now)

Float sofa seating in the middle of the room facing each other (can't determine if they are the same size)

Use a rectangle shape coffee table in the middle between sofas

If you can add a few things, this is what I would suggest...

Drapes or roman shades on the pair of windows flanking the f/p are a must.

Keep blinds rolled up during the day for natural light

New wood flooring would be ideal instead of carpet / add 8x10 area rug

Leanne Michael has great suggestions. The art piece that you have on the staircase wall above your smaller couch, would be a better piece to replace above your mantle. You can work with what you already have. If you are going to put blankets on your couches, you might want to at least find something that will tie in with your decor. Best of luck you can do it!

kara, did mock floor plan for you. Did not have dimensions of room so guessed by furniture and windows. If you want to send me real ones, I can adjust. This should work with your furniture. Hang picture over mantle and add some tables and lamps. I can do another change change out sofa and get rid of loveseat and add another chair. Tell me what you think.

I agree w/ the large art above the FP. Try not lining the walls w/ the furniture. I will show some furniture as examples for new. Please do not go gray for anything.

Do you have any accent colors in your kitchen or are there any that you like ? I would try Susan2494's first floor plan with your existing furniture to see if that works for you. Is the furniture in good shape? Maybe all you need is a few accessories and a few art pieces to brighten it up - along with your adorable pups!

Your media center needs to be at least one foot & a half longer than the TV. I showed puddled drapes but don't puddle them.
