I ALWAYS paint ceilings..and never white(s). I am know as the queen of painted ceilings. Not knowing your wall colors, I'll give you my general rule of thumb. If the wall shade is light - paint the ceiling the same shade. If the walls are a mid tone - I paint the ceiling either the same as the walls or one shade lighter. If the walls are darker & not a bright color, I would paint the ceiling 1/4 -1/2 the shade of the walls. And, on certain occasions a different color altogether. When looking to paint...ALWAYS choose your wall color LAST when decorating the room. Remember there are thousands of paint colors and only a few rugs, fabrics, etc. that you will like. And..always buy paint samples to use to paint 2 coats on an entire poster board..tape it onto each wall to look at in daylight & night light..same goes for ceilings. Good luck to you.

Thank you....the walls are a french vanilla ice cream color, Ivoire from Sherwin Williams and I painted the ceiling the same color. I like your idea of painting the ceiling a shade lighter. That might help.

One can have the wall color mixed for a ceiling by using 3 parts wall color to 1 part white, 2 parts wall color to 2 parts white, or 1 part wall color to 3 parts white. I can never remember what 1/4 is.

Thank you Barbara Griffith, for helping ME too!
