You apparently like enough about the house since you just bought it. I guess that you must be in a warm location? Personally, I could not live with those floors. I am curious about the walls. Are they textured? Are they all like that?

What do the rooms look like? Can you post more pics? You will get more help that way.

We have terrible tile throughout our kitchen, foyer, and hallway (prominent since the hallway is 5" wide and from one end of the home to the other). We have decided to overlay the tile with floating resilient vinyl or quality laminate flooring for now. It has to be thick enough for the grout lines to now show and thin enough to not have to alter room transitions significantly but it's a cost effective solution. 5 years down the road we will decide whether or not to spend the time/money ripping it all out and putting a new flooring in. That's how we are solving the problem in our fabulous-but-dated home.
