When you say decorate, do you mean color?...

The walls are very white, perhaps paint them a warmer color and keep the trim and columns white, then I would add a colorful rug in the sitting area

@woodcliffe Design: I didn't mean deacorate the columns in that sense. This is my new house and we are moving in and i will be painting and didn't know what kind of decoration or such would look good with the arches

I think you could paint the walls above and below the columns, depending on the colors you choose.

you could either change the shape of columns or maybe paint the colums, and the ledges (ie everything perpendicular to the main walls) a darker colour than the actual walls. Really use a vibrant colour that complements your furniture. Good luck!

If it were me I would probably box them in/square them off. Not a big fan of round columns. But if you like them and want to keep them, then leave them and the crown a bright white and paint the walls and ceiling... maybe a nice mossy green or an earthy tan/taupe. The room is so neutral and big you could go in many directions with color. All depends on the furniture you will be using in this room and the feeling you want to convey.

My furniture is a sage green color but i bought some accent pillows with greens,yellows, golds,blue,and creams

I do not think I would hang anything or put flowers/plants. Possibly well placed and sized urns or vases...depending on the room..it could get too busy. I would only do that if I wanted to call attention to that wall...and didn't have tons of objects around the room.

Leave the columns as is you have a gorgeous room! You should go with a moroccan theme to this room!

I like neutral walls in most cases. I really like your furniture color and pillows... I personally would go for a taupe like color that would pick up the tone of your furniture...I would go a lighter color than your sofa and I really like the tone of the medium shade in the pillow......

Most people do not decorate columns, however i have seen a few columns on pinterest where people have gone a little crazy! We have a board full of columns and ideas on what to do with yours http://pinterest.com/worthingtonmlwk/columns/

Moroccan can be quite pretty...the arches are Moroccan - like....it can also get busy...

You would not believe what designers have seen done with columns :-) I suggest starting with a style you want to achieve and then deciding on how the columns will work with the style. I would agree with previous responses to beef up the columns, so they look like they're supporting the wall. With the scale of this room you could select a darker color to highlight the shape of the arches as well as the tray ceiling.

I think blue would look good on the walls, the ceiling you could paint a different color or leave it white.'

If you want to keep it simple without going to bold, keep the round part of the column white to coordinate with the ceiling.

That room is so large, I think it could work...here is another room I though looked goodf. This one is lighter.
