This really was a complex job. I did install the control box and run the electrical. Five years ago I would have tackled it. No way now. That center redesign Oct thru April made a believer out of me. Mentally I still want to do it but the old body says no. You will find out come time. My days of crawling around in the dirt to that extent are history. It ceases to be fun if it becomes a challenge. I could post another 7-10 photos that look just like those. Not pretty. The sod is trash and I will replace that as soon as it cools off.

Good, I'm glad you're not doing it. Like I said earlier, the benefits of having an irrigation system are great! You'll be sipping coffee on early mornings watching the action and knowing your plants/turf are extremely grateful, especially during droughts.

Dave, did you encounter many tree roots in there? Or were there any areas near big trees you did not encounter roots but you expected to?

There were no roots to speak of. The only big tree, the Ginkgo roots deep and I went right by that with no issues.
