window in shower

street facing window where a tub sits. remodel to only have a walk in shower here and no tub. can't use obscure glass because of the look from the street. suggestions?

Hello Nancy,

Consider "Switchable Privacy Glass". You can have your view and add privacy with the clear window glass turning opaque at the flip of a switch. It is available in several colors also. You will need to provide low voltage power to the window and add a wall switch. Also, you definitely want to find a contractor capable of thinking "outside the box" for the installation. I don't sell this type of glass, but you should be able to find it on Google, otherwise I can connect you with a company here in DFW.

Glass block, vinyl, or fiberglass will be your options. Coupled with proper waterproofing. And proper tie in to the window. The best option would be to eliminate or move the window though.

without obscure glass the 'look from the street' will be something remarkable. don't trust glass blocks, another poster got a little hint from neighbor that the blocks weren't up for the job.
replace the window with a. high one the same width, or consider plastic plantation shutters.

Many houses ago when we were young and poor we had an older home that had a wood window in the tub/shower. Of course it rotted out and was a mess. We couldn't afford a real remodel and weren't sure what to do. In the end, I hung some curtains in the window then we drywalled and tiled right over it. From outside it looked like closed curtains, inside was just a tiled shower. Not ideal, but it did the job.

We applied window film from Solyx to our bathroom window. Looks great from the inside and out. Many compliments.
