Table is too small. Your decor looks a bit more traditional so I would get a console with a little more weight and interest. Something like these

How about a simple Parsons table?

I would also consider a small dresser, one with a little more height. That mirror is so large - it isn't as much about the "size" of the table you had there but being so low, it felt like it was being pressed down by the mirror. If you don't want to go the route of a dresser, perhaps you can rehang the mirror a little higher, then find items to go on the table that are taller to fill in the space, like candlesticks, sculptures or table lamps.

I have this buffet that I didn't have room for in the dining room. Do you think this would work under the mirror? The top would be about 5" from the bottom of the mirror and it is about 25% longer so the size would be okay

. But not sure about the style. It is very heavy and not easy to move otherwise I would just try it and see. Appreciate any feedback.

This one is from Houzz and is 42 inches wide. How wide is the space between the windows?

The mirror is 46" in diameter and the space between the windows is 87"

You may need to allow for draperies on those windows.

I plan on doing side panels away from the center so it should be okay.

Side panels may not be the right look here. Since we haven't really seen the room in question it is hard to say, but they often just look like a half done job if not done well. Be careful.

Where is the mirror on the wall? How far from the ceiling? The floor? It seems to me that it might be low, thus my earlier suggestion to raise it and fill the space with taller deco items.

Mirror is about 28" from floor and 46" from floor. I moved the table and the space looks better, more airy. Do I even need a table there? What else could I use there? I'm afraid the large buffet is going to cover up too much of the wall and make it look crowded as the living room is not very big. Decoenthusiaste, do you think valances would work better than side panels? Open to all suggestions.

Well now that we see more of the room,...............everything changes. The issue was not the table, but the mirror. Not the right place in this room for a mirror IMO.

How about this solution? I'm not crazy about rust colored drapes for this room because the walls look pink in this photo, but maybe another color.....................is the sofa olive? hard to tell in the images.

Mirror looks much better alone. Generally, center point at 5' above the floor works. Just add stationary panels - a pair per window and you're done!

The walls are actually kind of greyish and the sofa has a greyish background with a bit of rust and green in the flowers. I like the table with the artwork BeverlyFLADeziner has above it, but I have an open floor plan with few walls and no where else to put the mirror. Easiest solution is to leave the mirror by itself as decoenthusiaste suggests and focus on a pair of panels for each window. Really appreciate the help.

I liked the half-round dresser that was suggested. I had arc-shaped bookshelves on a wall where there was narrow walking space, and they did not "loom" into the space. Good luck!

I agree with Beverly. The mirror is not so right for this room. It is too large and heavy with your coffee table and side chair. The table fit in very well and her idea with the pictures over it looks so much nicer. Sometimes we just want to try to make things work with what we already have but it's not always the most ascetically pleasing answer.

Can't the mirror go in a bathroom, foyer or bedroom?

Here are a few more pictures of the room from different angles. It is such an open floor plan that the mirror is very visible from the foyer, the formal dining room and the family room, as you can see in these shots. The only solid wall is where the sofa is and it is not a straight wall but is angled. I agree the mirror seems big for the chairs and coffee table, etc. Perhaps I should replace those as I have always felt that they were kind of small for the sofa?? I tried the sofa under the mirror, against the sliding door, facing the mirror, but it didn't look right. Still not sure this is the right place for it?

Now we're getting the "picture!" Hope you're ready for input! I think the best thing you can do for the entire room is to move the sofa under the mirror and get a larger rug that doesn't blend into the floor. I like rugs to sit under the front 1/3 of the sofa and extend well past the ends of it for a truly grounded look. Place your two chairs flanking the sofa, facing each other over the coffee table. All the seating should be no further than 18" from the coffee table for it to be useful. This vignette also means that the rug needs to be wide enough to allow the chairs to sit entirely on it. If they were upholstered armchairs, they could sit with just their front feet on it, but these two need to be firmly anchored on the rug. If you're able to replace them with more substantial chairs, then the side chairs could work as a vignette with the original table your posted. For now, I'd bring that table back if it will fit on the wall where you have the plant in the big pot. If there's an outlet there, add a lamp that brings the height of table and lamp to 58-64" above the floor Move the picture around the corner and center it there, removing the plates, hanging the art so its center point is 5' above the floor. Try stacking the plates on that bit of wall left of the big window where you have the larger plant. Hang them three fingers apart with the small one between the two bigger plates. The center of the small plate should be 5' above the floor. Looks like you have a huge chandelier hidden in foyer of your home, and you have plenty of floor space there. I'd bring in a round foyer table and lower the chandelier over it. It looks pretty big, so you might need a smaller one above the table, but that will be a knock out look and will fill your entry nicely!You may opt to put a rug under it as well. Window treatments will be tricky since the one window has no wall space for drapes to lie against. Consider fabric roman shades or Hunter Douglas Silhouette blinds for a softer look.

I do wish the wall where the big plant is was wider, but it is very narrow so the table wouldn't fit there. Actually, I use the plant there to hide the side of the TV so you don't see it as you enter the foyer. I'll move it more into the family room area and see. For the round foyer table (that I hope to get) , should I look for a round rug as well, or should that be oblong? Feeling excited about the changes. Thanks again!!

You're welcome! If there is room after moving the sofa, you might try the table on the "plate" wall with the art hung 5" above it. Since your foyer and living are all one area, you might put a rectangle rug a the sofa and a round one identical to it in the foyer. I'll keep my eyes open for an idea. The end table might work on one side of the sofa.

Moved the sofa and chairs and the room looks so much better already. I'm now searching online for rugs. I'll try the table on that wall, looks like I might have room. Thank you so much for your help. Really appreciate it. Will post pics on completion.

Mirror should be moved for sure! Think it would work a couple of different spots, one being the wall behind the sofa, rather than those three little plates!

I do like the reflection of the staircase in the mirror with the mirror between the windows. But living in CA. having a really heavy mirror right over my head makes me nervous!

Take your point pcmom1, but the mirror is actually behind the sofa, not right above it so it would hit the floor and not someone's head if it fell. Problem with the wall with the plates is that it is a half wall and anything centered on that wall looks off balance above the sofa.

I was going to suggest putting it on the short angled wall but the sofa being moved will likely help. I think you need to get some curtains up there, as well. It will help to soften plus give some additional visual texture. The window placement will make that difficult - maybe consult with someone? Not sure blinds will add enough but certainly worth looking into. Once you get your window treatment sorted and hung, you'll be able to see if you need more than just the mirror.

Pretty sofa and, while I would never be able to live with orange, the oddity is that I truly love looking at it! That blanket is a great shade, too! You do need a more substantial rug, especially if you've turned the sofa. Consider something with that same "zing" to it - doesn't have to be loud or modern but a touch of color would be great...and you don't seem to be afraid of it. :)

Also like the idea of a vignette with those chairs. They really aren't substantial enough to anchor the room. You could place them at 90 degree angles with a small side table at one end of the rug and then get a chunkier chair for the other corner. You have a pretty floor lamp - maybe you can get a more textured shade in the darker beige of your sofa.Get some fringe like your pillows and tack it on the bottom. If you don't mind painting that lamp, think about getting some black or charcoal/iron spray paint and match

As suggested, move the painting around to the short wall. Consider getting it reframed - bigger frame or bigger matte. Great colors so make it a statement piece. Plates are lovely - maybe you can move them to a bathroom?

And I have to say that your chandelier is really terrific. And I love the pop of orange in that niche in the foyer.

Much improved! Love the stairs and art reflected in the mirror! Now just snug up the conversation area. The rug will help you do that. All seating pieces should be no more than 18" from the coffee table so guests can set things down. Pull the end table closer to the sofa. I think you could use a taller lamp there. Bring mirror down so bottom edge is 5" above the sofa, and do the same with the picture so it is 5" above the console table. Try that lamp on the console table and look for a more airy open one for the glass table.

Love your suggestions decoenthusiaste and I'm on it. But the mirror is so heavy, my husband is going to have a fit to move it again. The picture is light and I can move that myself. I wonder could I get some bigger pillows at the back of the sofa so the mirror doesn't have to be moved? The mirror and art seems high in the pictures but in person they don't seem that high, perhaps because of the high ceilings? Appreciate your thoughts.

Your sofa pillows are already pretty big, so I don't think bigger ones are a solution. Since the mirror seems to be centered with the division of the sashes in your windows you may be able to leave it until you put in new window treatments. Have you checked the measurement to see if the center of the mirror is 5' above the floor? If it is, you may be OK to leave it. You need to stop worrying about the high ceilings and be glad you don't have the big 20' vault to be concerned about. They are fine. Decorate where you live, not much over your head. You'll get used to them over time.

I had the 20' ceilings at my last house and for some reason I had an easier time decorating....maybe I have moved too many times and now I am just confused??? The center of the mirror is 65" from the floor. I'm now going to focus on finding a rug and drapes. BTW, I pulled the conversation area closer and it looks so much better. One of the best finishing touches to a room is a great plant or two.

I would search the house for a few special books and add them to the top of the console. Could also add a couple of stacks to the floor under. I love the warmth that books add to a room.

I never knew why I was watching this thread, but now I'm like, YES!! pcmom1 is right - find a tall plant like a palm or even a skinny pine looking one, and put it *beside* the mirror and table.
