I caught that too. Chives grow in a very tight clump.

Okay ill harvest and save them I was afraid if I took too much off they would go to seed and stop producing

They are more likely to go to seed if you don't cut them back. Trim them down to the base. That will encourage new growth.

Okay, I harvested and froze them. Hopefully they will grow sweeter like they were earlier in season. Im thinking the heat and strong sun made them oniony or being left on too long

A vine is generally considered to be a long lax stem, often climbing by some means such as tendrils. Think grape vine. Chives are just a clump of stems.

I know, I couldnt think of what to call it. Cluster I suppose sounds reasonable.

I'd call them a "clump".
