I have never understood the need for a privacy wall in a bathroom who wants to be in there when some else is doing there business makes no sense to me.

I agree with Patricia, this privacy walls never made any sense to me. I can see this wall is being done to obtain a certain look, seperation to have an ledge/shelf or some sort of decorative purpose, etc. but this is far away from privacy, because the closer you stand the less privacy there will be, unless you put a 5' wall and min 3' out.

With that said average toilet height is 16-18" and approximately 30" out from the wall to the edge of the toilet. The shoulder height of someone sitting on the toilet with an average height is about 40-44". Vanity height is anywhere between 31.5"- 34.5" With all that in mind how much privacy you want to get when being behind that wall or seeing someone behind that wall and how much room you have to play with?

it *almost* made sense back in the day when most folks had one bathroom and a line would form of kidlets needing to go NOW while you were in the tub. now, if you can afford to remodel a bath and build a privacy wall odds are you have more than one bath. ymmv.

but i have the same confuzzlement with people who don't want clear glass in the shower 'for privacy'. i figure doors with locks were invented for a reason.

Actually sometimes privacy walls still make sense. Unfortunately my tub is situated next to the toilet (which is not an unusual bathroom configuration) so having a privacy wall between tub and toilet allows me to soak without feeling like my head is right next to the commode..

I am building a privacy wall because I have 3 kids that share....sometimes there is no time in the morning to let them have the bathroom to themselves. One is usually in the shower while the others are brushing teeth etc.... You design a bathroom based on your needs. I would love to have 3 bathrooms for them :) I am going to 52 inches to make it really private. I can always take it out when I no longer need it.
