The siding is Hardie Artisan siding which is thicker than typical cementicious siding. The siding is butting up to the metal window jamb with a caulk joint -- just like a normal window trim. The thicker siding is also why we can have no trim at the building corners--though the mitering did take some effort. There should be details on the Hardie web site.

This is nice- and exactly what I am trying to achive on my new construction. As a mere mortal homeowner and not an expert- trying to figure out exactly how to achive this look without trim and I keep getting different answers. The GC has never worked with Artisan, neither has the architect , and the supply guys insist that I need to by hardie artisan trim (he wants to sell me more stuff) - which is 3.5" wide. I'd like to loose the trim all together to achive the look you have here or at worse do PVC of 1.5", again no one can give me clear guidence.
