What part of the country do you live in (hot or cold) and what does the rest of the house have? It's a nice look to see fluid flooring throughout a home. You wouldn't want carpet in the living areas, hardwood in the bedrooms, ceramic in the kitchen, for example. That said, I prefer hardwood.

Hard to answer. So many concerns to look at before deciding. First off: where is the home located? Is it HOT or is it COLD? Hot climates do very well with tile throughout the home. Homes in Nevada, Florida, Texas, etc enjoy their tile floors.

A home in Michigan will not be as "happy" with tile throughout...those -30 winters make tile hard to live with outside of kitchens and baths.

The TYPE of home will also dictate. Cement slabs do well with tile. Plywood subfloors have some issues with tiles. Plywood subfloors have to be specifically built (read: reinforced) to handle the massive weight of tile. If you have plywood and it is NOT ready for tile...you will find a massive chunk of your renovation budget will go to reinforcing the subfloor.

We tear out more tile floors than we see installed in the Chicago area. Among other limitations, grout lines in kitchen tile are difficult to keep clean. We prefer hardwood as well.
