Do you mean what is the counter surface in a kitchen you saw, or what does counter surface mean? If the latter, most kitchens have lower cabinets with a counter on top of them. The counter is often a more durable surface than the cabinet top. Marble or Corian (a hard man-made counter top), granite are popular. Formica is found in older kitchens.
