What Are You Making?

I want so bad to find time to sew up some aprons but for now that is out of the question, but maybe you can tell us what you are working on.

That fabric sounds so pretty for your little princess! I went to Hobby Lobby today and picked up a couple different fabrics on clearance. Now to see when I can find the time to sew. Tomorrow I may get to Joann's. I have not been to either store all summer. Lots going on at my house.

Unfortunately, I drive past a Joann or Hobby Lobby every weekday at least once, sometimes more, so the temptation is nearly overwhelming!

Going tomorrow. Need the platform fabric muslin for a bed skirt. Don't need much winter clothing here in Florida so I'll check out the summer fabric sales.

I'm trying to finish up a fleece pullover of tunic length that I made for my college-age DD. I had it done, but discovered that the pattern is humongous--I had tried to fit it on her before she left for college, and didn't realize how terribly big it is.
So we're trying the idea of taking big darts in the back (2 of 'em, each about 1.5 inches, so 6" out of the back!) and doing a deeper seam in the arm.

But I'm afraid that the armholes are so huge, and it'll still be roomy around the shoulder. I want to say to her, "Look, I think you aren't going to wear this--it'll sit around in your closet and you'll find it too uncomfortable and annoying to wear. So let me just hem it up and drop it off at the Goodwill. We'll try again sometime. Sorry!!"

And I have a piece of tablecloth fabric my MIL brought me back from Italy, but she got way too small a piece for it to work on my full-size dining table. I'm hemming the cut ends up so I can send it up to school w/ DD, who thinks they might be able to use it on their table in her apartment. (They probably won't use it, to be honest--or they'll use it once, stain it, and never use it again.)

I just made 3 baby blankets with matching burn cloths and a baby bath apron for a friend for her niece's shower. Had a baby shower to attend and I made blankets, burn cloths, baby bath apron, hooded bath towel with baby's name appliquéd on the back and some bibs. She requested on her list homemade things. Oh, and a cute tutu!! Hope to get some Americian Girl doll clothes son. What can I say, I am in the mood!!

Working on my adult aged son's bedroom who has moved to another state. Last week I completed the euro pillows. Next, I will be sewing the draperies and dust ruffle--not sure which will come first.

Some simple pillows for my living room. I made the matching window valances last year, never got around to making the pillows. This weekend, I promised myself some sewing time so I'll try to get them done. Next on the list are window valances for my bedroom. For a fall/winter project, I'm toying with the idea of trying to reupholster an old chair, just a practice piece to see if I can do it. I have done custom slipcovers as well as reupholstering an antique love seat and chair, although the antiques were a fairly simple job. This chair will be a good bit more work, but if I find some fabric cheap, I'll give it a try, if it doesn't come out well, no big deal.

lam702 - Please post pics (on this sewing forum as well as the home decor forum) and description of the process when you get around to reupholstering the old chair. Myself & others will be inspired by your project.

    Hi,

I'm making my first quilt - and using my brand new serger to sew the pieces for the 'disappearing 9' pattern I chose. It's for a baby blanket. From my reading around the web, serging the pieces together is 'frowned upon' but it is so so fast. Realized with this project I love the planning, enjoy the fussing around getting the right fabric, etc, love seeing it come together, but hate repeat sewing (I love my sewing machine and am quite comfortable with it ---- it's the repetitive steps that bore me!) Calling it "Monday Night Football Blankie"

Just finished two baby boy quilts and matching burp cloths. I have five stuffed animals cut and ready to sew. Two quilts prepped and ready to sew. I have a pile of Christmas fabric I need to make decisions about soon

Well I'll post pics if I ever get around to trying my hand at reupholstering that chair. I went to the 7th Ave Fashion district in NYC this weekend. I really went to NYC to babysit my grandkitty, but while there I had to go to 7th Ave & 38-40th St. All fabrics, laces, buttons, trim stores. You name it, they have it, especially if you are looking to make fancy evening oir bridal wear. I will be making some victorian throw pillows, so I wanted some satin, venice lace, ribbon and/or trims. I was not disappointed, the only problem is trying to decide, because there are limitless choices. Whatever you can think of, they've got the goods to make it! There are some fabric stores with home dec fabrics and wool suit fabrics, but mostly its beaded laces, fine fabrics and just about any color or style trims you can imagine. Fun to just browse around. Makes me wish I had an event to make a dress for. I have made a few cocktail dresses and a mother of the bride dress from materials I've purchased from there.

I Love to hear about all these creators! my fabric store is Goodwill or Salvation Army. You can always find textiles that complement or match each other there. So many folks have the buying disease and then give perfectly good stuff away....I recently made 3 gorgeous sweaters out of 2 or 3 sweaters each. Last year I made a lovely all cashmere dress for my Mom who turned 80.

    Juboka,

I am like you when it comes to thrift stores. I have found fabric that has never been cut that still had the price tag still on it. When my youngest grandson was born I found enough blue gingham to make a crib quilt, bumper pads, a sheet, and a pillow case. I also found batting for the quilt, and also the bumpers. The quilt had brown teddy bears on it and I even found the solid brown fabric there. It was great not to have to pay full price for all of this. As you all know this project would have cost me quite a bit for everything needed. They are also my main source for any yarn projects I have going. Love it!
