Question about eggplant.

I have read about drying eggplant and am unsure how to go about it. These eggplants are the elongated ones about i" to 1 1/2" by about 12" in length. Do I need to steam blanch them?. I feel sure you have to peel. They are not the black beauties which are bigger and rounder. Can somebody tell me their experiences. Thank you. Barb
