First, because they will all come to tell you, you know have 2 posts going. you could do it all in light gray with a teal door. Light yellow with black or slate blue door. My home in fl got rave reviews when i painted it a very creamy yellow with a colonial blue as trim, very much in the slate blue line. do not know about painting the top a different color. As you many have noticed there is not as much of that down there. it is a lovely home though. have fun what ever you do.

The painter does a lot of work in Rosemary Beach and Seacrest.... They do a lot of two toned houses in both projects. so that is where he is coming from with his suggestion. Our little house is more dated like Seaside, in my opinion, but it has Victotian ish gingerbread porch spindles, and fish scales in the gable.... I am trying to work with it, but I like cottage but not so much Victorian. For better or worse , the blue siding and red door are freshly painted . The painter offered to repaint all or part of the fish scales in the gable if I wanted. Looking for help, suggestions ! He returns in two days to finish!

once again it is great the way it is. You can do other options, Rosemary Beach and Seacrest they are new communities with much northern influence. If you want a fl beach cottage you will keep it light. i would go with my gut if i were you. I assume you are unhappy with the blue? Go with another light color, the 2 tone etc. those are the victorian, brought by northern influence. Like i said if you want you can go medium colors that is more modern. Just not bright and no light swallowing darks. you are not making clear of the problem. Do you want to repaint the shingles?

I like the blue, but I think I am trying to balance or tone down the boldness of the red doors that were painted just yesterday with an accent color or white on the cedar fish scales in the gable. The fish scales were painted the same dusty pink color as the body for last 20 years. So, I thought it may be an option to consider them in the paint color change. I really like the red doors but I lack confidence . The colors in Seaside and our community are changing. I think the dusty pastels are being replaced by deeper pastels?? Can you tell I am clueless?

Ok, so here are some color combos from behr, cause that is the only one I can figure out how to use.

In this one, I am thinking your house is the color of to the right, so on top I would go with Ashwhite, bottom color Door and maybe trim if you like one of the other 2

    Mystic Harbor PIC-54
    Heron 530F-6
    Ashwhite W-F-520

    Here is more true blue

i decided yours looked most like the bottom, so the top right would be the darkest I would go, then door and trim in top right. I know it all goes with the bottom right, but that seems awful bright.

this one your house would be spring storm now, do the shingles in bottom or upper right, door and trim in lower right

    Polaris blue PPU13-06

    Last One

Your home is the upper right, same as above left, do top in bottom color, trim in bottom right if you like and door in upper left, keeps it very beachy and yet a smile to the northern beach.

    Spring Storm S450-3

i think this last one is quite fresh. of course all these palettes can be mixed if you want.

Blues and greens are so hard to pick!! We went with Tranquil Bay (Behr I think). Is your landscaping going to change at all? Make sure you think about what potted plants and colored flowers you will want. Here's a pic of ours after it was done if this helps at all. Make sure you test on all sides of the house because they can be drastically different. Here, one is the front and one is the back I believe in mid morning and at dusk.

Great comments, thanks so much to all for sharing. I so wish I had seen the Behr color palette combos before I started this project!!!! At this point I cannot change the trim color. Only doors and fish scales are open for repainting. I really like the pulled together look of the river house. I is so cute and says fun happens here. After looking at the river house, I think I need may need to add a gable vent of some sort to help breakup the expanse of fish scales, and add shutters?? My sister suggested painting the white trim paint on the two courses of horizontal siding above the widows and/ or a few rows of fish scales at the bottom courses and another few rows at an interval in the middle of the gable. Comments?

I can't tell the measurements, but your shutters would have to be very narrow to fit them on all 3 of the top windows. Have you thought about adding flower boxes to the windows instead? Maybe a decorative gable corner piece?

Not sure about painting only certain rows of fish scales, but what about adding a second trim color (not these colors but you get my drift)?

I can't tell but is your door solid wood? If so, I would not paint it. Those babies are $$$$. If it is already painted, then I say go for something bright, like a sunny yellow!

Front door is metal with half glass. Painter just finished 2 coats of this red yikes!!! yesterday. I didn't know what to do with the sidelights. he plans to give 3rd coat red tomorrow. I think best to leave sidelights white and add some color pots with flowers when possible in front of them.Flower boxes would be great, but we are not here most of the time and have some rentals in summer only. I like idea of adding a bigger detail in the peak. There is one but too small too small to really accent. Need suggestion for new wall lights for either side of front door. Black, White dark bronze??? Style?? The one showing really go on the back of the house. Not able to have bare wires showing on the front during painting. Thanks for your helpful input.
