Need help with family room

Just moved into a new home and the fireplace wall feels like it is missing built in's on both sides. Not sure if I can add built in's though. The fireplace only extends 5" from the wall and it is a wood burning fireplace, although it is possible to convert fireplace to gas. Not sure how to go about pursuing built in's and whether it's even possible. The previous owners had a tall cabinet in the far left corner placed at an angle and they had a short cabinet flush against the right side of the fireplace to hold media equipment. I thought it looked awkward like this. The room is approximately 27' wide and 16' deep. I've attached a picture of a fireplace wall with built in's that I like the look of and think may look nice in my family room.

I agree with blenheimnewzealand and Darzy, except I don't think you need to mount the TV.

you can have built ins the fireplace will just be recessed is all. i would convert to gas just for the ease of use.

I think there may be a better furniture arrangement. Although not shown in the photo, the perpendicular wall to the right of the fireplace may work better for a (larger) T.V. and the sofa could then potentially be placed in front of the windows, but a few feet from them. You could then work in other seating.

yes you could put the long sofa on the window wall.

move the tv to the love seat wall.

put the love seat where the sofa is now

move the chair to where the tv is now.

I would look into replacing that light fixture over the table. its just doing nothing for the space.

if you sell the existing one on craigslist or at a consignment shop you should get 200+ for it.

You could paint the wall with fireplace all one colour like first pic or just the walls either side of fireplace. I'm not a fan of built ins. Big mirrors either side with side tables looks good. Put tv on big wall

My vote is two matching consoles flanking the FP. One side with the TV mounted above, the other side a nice piece of art. Many times built-ins end up looking cluttered and busy and takes up floor space.
