Low voltage lighting

I have several low voltage can lights with 12v halogen lights. I recently bought 12v led lights to replace the halogen. Shortly after installation, they burnt out. I now see that the led lights were 12v DC. Did I just get bad lights or should they have been 12V AC?. I don't know if they are interchangeable.

There's not enough information to tell here. Most LED replacements for halogen fixtures will tolerate either AC or DC. Are you sure you really had low voltage cans?

I'm sure I know all the information you may need. What would you like to know? Yes, I'm sure I have low voltage cans. They have 12v halogen bulbs MR16 with gu 5.3 pins. Voltmeter measures 11-12V,

Would that be AC or DC? If AC the peak DC voltage will be a bit more than 12vdc. If you put DC bulb into an AC circuit, chances are the reverse voltage fried it.
