Wood stove area remodel

Please help with suggestions on how to redo the wood stove area (where the plant is). This is a realtor staged photo. We will have a couch in the middle of the room facing the view. Then also a small seating area by the stove.
My husband agrees the wood needs to go. It fights with the ceiling. So we would paint that area the same color as the walls. He wants the brick, but I still think it makes it look too heavy and detracts from the view.
Any thoughts?

I love the wood so it's hard for me to think of replacing it or tearing it out. But not a fan of the brick unless painted.

I don't know how you are going to keep that alcove and have it look good. It looks like you need a wood stove there. What are your thoughts on utilizing that space? They make some awesome looking wood stoves these days - very modern.

Other options would be to build in a cabinet but the stone would have to go for that. a bar type set up maybe? No matter what you do, the trim has gotta go and maybe the wood on the sides of the alcove. Just getting rid of that will update the area.

BTW, beautiful home and great views!

Wow ,it's kinda cool ...I would put a cool fireplace there if you don't want wood burning make it look wood burning

Sorry I wasn't clear. We do plan to add a stove there. Either a wood stove or a stand alone gas stove.
I had wondered about having the alcove made smaller....room for a small stove, then have niches built into the sides where it's been sheet rocked in.

I do like the look of those modern stoves.
Should we keep brick? Can there be a way to make it look more contemporary?

Glad to hear you are going to put a stove there. Make sure you check into code requirements for your new stove prior to installation. Walls may have to be a certain distance from the heat source, etc. which would affect how much further in you can bring those walls.

Yeah, I wondered about that. You can see they had a stove before, glad they removed it, it probably wasn't up to code.

Maybe paint out the brick with a high heat paint. Charcoal color? Then take your niche idea and go with one on each side of stove. Tall and skinny stacked with cut firewood. Some samples in Houzz photos.
