Kitchen reveal

Hi All,

This is the kitchen in my new build, not really a kitchen redo, but I learned so much on this post when I was designing with the KD and tweaking things I thought I would share it with you.

Background: this is our first new house, it is our "forever" retirement home. It is a 1 story, 1700 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath Vaulted great room open to dining area and kitchen. I consider it a modest home, no elaborate kitchen or master bath, but I really love the way the kitchen turned out. The cabinets are Cherry with a cinnamon stain and a Mocha glaze. There is a super Susan in the corner between the stove and the sink. It's not a large kitchen about 14 ft x 11 ft but my KD said it is small but mighty:). My favorite 2 features are the Cobalt blue pendants and the island, oh, and the pantry! The pantry is a 5 ft x 4 ft walkin. The island is a distressed cream color with a stainless steel top. It has a pullout table on the one side that is perfect for two to have breakfast or lunch. The dining table and chairs we had custom made by an Amish woodworking shop in Indiana, we are only about 4 hours from the shop since we live Illinois. It has 6 chairs and a pull up butterfly leaf, but we are only using 4 chairs currently.

Refrigerator Maytag. love the ice and water access in the door!

Stove. Maytag Really like the super big glass door

Microwave. Maytag it doesn't turn in a circle, it has an oblong plate and goes back and forth and sideways

Dishwasher. Bosch (I wouldn't have anything else)

Faucet. Moen

Cabinets by Haas with Blum slow close doors and drawers, I can't say enough about this companies quality and service. Most of my cabinets were custom sizes to fit in my space and they were spot on!

Floor. 21/4 inch oak with a Gunstock color stain (wood is throughout the kitchen, dining area, greatroom and hallways.

Countertop. Corian in the tumbleweed color/pattern with an off white integrated sink. (Integrated sink was my Hubby's only request for the kitchen).

Backsplash is 6 inch x 6 inch slate tiles with 2 rows in the middle of the same in 3 inch x 6 inch tiles.

Thank you all for your help, advice and inspiration....

Glass pantry door, hard to take a picture without the glass glaring.

I don't have the pantry quite organized yet, but I love the space!

Wow - Looks fantastic! And that is an awesome pantry space! You must be so happy!

Nice zorro. I like the baskets.

    What a lovely kitchen!

What a pretty kitchen, especially with the cobalt blue lights which I think are gorgeous against your stainless steel counter, and so efficient looking.

It seems like a great retirement home.

I love your kitchen, and more important, it sounds as though you do. I hope you enjoy it for many, many years, your thoughtful planning shows. Can I admit to being a little jealous of that great pantry - the kitchen in this house is larger, but no easy reach pantry, and it doesn't have the Blum slow close.

Your cabinets are lovely! And your pantry is fantastic! What a joy for you to have a new home. Congratulations and nicely done. Thanks for sharing with us.

So pretty! I especially love the island, what great ideas you have going on it, with the pullout table, the baskets you can access from two sides, the top, very fine.

I like my integrated Corian sink, too. I don't like that my sink is a double, both bowls the same; I'd rather have a side I can fit a whole roasting pan in. But the integration makes it so easy to clean.

I wish I had a pantry like that, I need a place to store small appliances. I don't mind going to my basement for food in the "pantry annex" (the kitchen pantry is only 24" wide) but I think twice about carrying a heavy appliance upstairs.

    I envy you that pantry!

How wonderful. I love the cobalt lights and that island is fantastic. How creative! And I like the lighter color contrasting with the darker perimeter and how the color of the island ties in with the color of the counters. Bravo!

What a beautiful space! Your island is so pretty, love the cream with the SS top. And your BS looks great with your cabinets and counters.

Thanks everyone, it's nerve racking to pick things out and then hope they all look good together. If anyone is interested in seeing the rest of the house, I posted pictures of the inside on the Building a House forum in the It's September, how is your build progressing posting.

What a beautiful kitchen. I love love your pantry! What a cute pantry door. I ordered the same pendant lights for my kitchen remodel but in smokey. I had to send them back bc they were to big for where I want to put them…..yours are beautiful! I know you will have years enjoy your kitchen.

Love it!!! The pendants are gorgeous and that pantry, it must be so nice to see everything!

I'm planning on replacing my pantry door with a frosted glass one like yours so I can honestly say that is one of my favorite features in your kitchen!

Oh pretty! I love the color of your perimeter cabinets! Any close ups of the corian? I would love to see the pattern a little better.

Beautiful! Love your island. Thank you for doing a reveal!

I love it! It's such a warm inviting space. The blue of your pendants is the perfect pop of color. Is that SS on the island? Great choices!

    Oldbat

yes, the island top is stainless steel.

This is a beautiful space! Would you be willing to take a picture of the island with the "table" extended? What kind of hardware was used? Thank you and enjoy!

    Nancyjwb

Here's a counter closeup. It is more creamy in person than the picture.

The above pic, which is an advertisement I had in my folder, is more true to color.

I love the Tumbleweed! And your pantry! And really, everything - you have a beautiful kitchen! I will have to show this to a friend - she wants a kitchen with some blue, but not a blue kitchen and I think this is what she is looking for.

Love your kitchen! I knew I would though, since you and I had similar taste/visions. :) It has a really nice "feel".

So glad you posted a close up of the counter. I find it rather chameleon like. At a distance in the first two pics it looks so light. But then in another of the sink it looks so much darker, relatively speaking. And I had that same ad pic saved, thanks for including that.

I too am in pantry envy. *sigh* It must be nice. ;)

    Enjoy!

How is the sink working out? I love the idea of no seam.

here is the table extended, we have breakfast and lunch at the island table.

Just room for 2 or it can be used as a buffet table when I have company.

    Oasisowner

Thanks, I do plan to incorporate a little more cobalt into the kitchen, maybe something above the window and on the window sill.

    Pratical

That was my husbands only input to the kitchen:). He wanted Corian with an integrated sink. We love it! Just wipe the counter crumbs right into it.

Your kitchen looks great! You are going to love the stainless top on your island. I didn't have room in my kitchen for an actual island, but put a 2x4 stainless prep table with two shelves in the center of the kitchen and now wonder how I ever survived without it :)

Beautiful! Thank you for adding pics of the island table. I love dual purpose items, and that's one of the neatest I've seen. Enjoy your new kitchen!

Very cool dual-purpose island. Oh and I love your stools.

Love the slate tiles, everything goes together so well! Your cabinets absolutely glow, beautiful!

So many special features to love in your kitchen. The island is definitely mighty. The stainless steel island countertop looks awesome, the island towel bar is so functional & also looks great, love the island bins & the island table extension - brilliant. What a wonderful pantry. I also love the cobalt pendants & the other touches of cobalt blue. Congrats!

Thank you for posting the island picture! I had pictured an oversized cutting board pullout and was imagining the heavy duty hardware it would take to make such a thing stable.

Is there a "stop" to keep it at the desired depth?

Yes, there is a stop on the table, it can only be pulled out to the length shown.

Love the versatility of your island....very creative! And you can add me to the list of those with "pantry envy". Beautiful job overall.

Small but mighty, indeed! That's a great kitchen, so much function combined with beauty. Love the wood on the cabs. Wish I had that pantry! Congratulations on a job well done.

Thanks for sharing your lovely new kitchen. Lots of thoughtful planning well executed. Enjoy!

Very nice! Clever touch with the pullout table in the island!

What a beautiful and well-thought out space to work in. You have so many special personal touches. The rest of your house is gorgeous too! I particularly love your backsplash tile. Would you mind telling us where the tile came from?

    Smokingsink

Our kitchen design store had them in their display area and our KD ordered them For us. We had some left over so I checked the box. It says Florim USA and they are porcelain.

that is such a lovely kitchen! i really love your island. Is it a standalone, or built-in? the pull out table is brilliant! Can you tell me if it is part of your cabinet line also, or gotten elsewhere? I would love to do something similar.

Oh wow, more gorgeous eye candy! I hit the jackpot today. The stain on those cherry cabinets make it look so rich. That island is totally awesome with the pull out for seating. Did the same Amish company make that as well? I love that and hope you don't mind if I repost that photo of your island occasionally, as I can think of several threads where something like that would work perfectly. Great job!

The island is not part of the cabinet line. We actually ordered it from a fairly upscale furniture store before we even broke ground and had them store it for us. . It is a Paula Dean River furniture piece and I have also seen it online, but that was a few months back. At the time it also came in a dark finish.

    No problem with the reposting.

How did I miss this reveal thread? I know how: too many years old threads getting bumped up to page 1, pushing new threads off the first page (aaargh!). Giving this thread a bump.

Love the versatility of your island. What a clever design. I can see it serving as a buffet counter, too.

Your blue pendants are one of my favorite features in your kitchen, too. Love the fun hit of color they add.

You're going to love that walk-in pantry! Mine is about the same size but with a sloped ceiling (under our stairs) and I can't get over how much stuff it holds. One of the KDs I interviewed tried to talk me into removing it in favor of cabs; I told her she was crazy! (I didn't hire her.)

I wish you many years of happily cooking in your new home.
