Dark color is nice in a small space

Sounds like you don't have a whole lot of wall space anyway. I like the drama that dark color brings and if you have a sufficient number of lights in the room, it shouldn't be a problem. It will certainly give the room a different feel - just make sure you're ready for it!

Do not decorate behind his back. Why risk bad feelings over wall color. Make up some large sample boards, save Houzz photos, etc, and present your side, including that you'll do all the work if it's not right after all. i painted the limited walls of my very small previous kitchen cobalt blue, it was awesome. i don't have any relationship counseling to offer other than its easy to go back to a light color if it doesnt work out.

I have a tiny master bathroom and it was a very neutral beige color up until I painted it Coffee Bean (very dark brown) a couple weeks ago. Much to my surprise, it looks much larger and just fantastic. LOVE It. Go for it.

chookchook2, where can I buy Pantone paint? I live on an island and my choices are either Rodda or ACE Hardware. I'm told if I have a big enough paint chip, the Rodda folks can copy other brands. A friend of mine visited lots of paint stores one day and brought me several samples. At the moment I'm considering Blazer Blue by Glidden and Dark Cobalt by Behr.

The navy would look great if you want to add a bit more drama to the space. I have done small spaces with dark colors and if the lighting is right and the rest of the decor, it looks fabulous.

However like many others have said, I would not recommend doing it while he is out of town. Perhaps you all could agree to give the navy a try for at least a week and if he does not agree that it looks better, you will repaint it.

Go Navy! Drama is a great way to spruce up a bathroom that doesn't have natural light. I'd consider a high-ish gloss finish to the paint to help reflect the many light sources around the bathroom and provide a bit of bling. Maybe Semi-Gloss or High-Gloss.

Go navy! whats the worst that happens? You hate it and paint it back...it will take some adjustment so marinate on it for a little while before you decide to paint it back if you are unsure, look at it in the day and night. Contrary to popular belief, not always does it make it feel smaller, you could lacquer over it so its high gloss too, that will help reflect light. Good luck!

There was a designer somewhere and she said that if you contact the companies they will send you larger paint chips. Just to confuse you even more, I will introduce you to a color chip i found a couple years ago, keep it by the bed, drooling over it. eddie bauer iolite blue. lol

Maybe you can just tell him you were bored, and playing around. You know, you want your husbands opinion, until you don't. fortunately for me, My hubby thinks everything i do is stupendous. Told him when we moved here. paint the damaged floors black, his helper said are you sure? Hubby said if she says it will work, it will work. They both loved it by the way. Of course and opinion on what outfit and what for dinner sometimes would be. ah well life goes on. Show us and have fun!

You are all giving me the courage to trust my instinct. I will tell him I'm going to do some painting... as he's boarding the plane. We've discussed it in the past. As I said earlier, I'm 98% sure it will look good -- there's plenty of white and good lighting. I think I'm more afraid of "what if I don't like it" after dreaming about it for 3 years! Does that make sense?

yeah, that is always the roughest part, you don't think i was terrified after telling them to paint the floors black? I guess it is a cheap thrill, like people love the roller coaster? hehehe

I always say... go with what you like! Paint colors you like. No one want to go into a room every time and hate the color they painted it

a small room is a small room. no color is going to change the size of the room.

If it is too dark, all you have to do is adjust the lighting.

I agree with RE3 Designs. I like to paint small powder rooms including ceilings dark or vibrant colors.
