Check out this earlier discussion about bamboo flooring. Although i don't personally live with bamboo flooring, I am a huge fan. Some have said that it scratches, but so does wood flooring. And the strand woven variety is said to be much harder than some wood varieties. Plus the overall process seems to be a better choice for the environment as well as the homeowner.

We have a new home with bamboo flooring throughout. We like it. We have some sctaches and dents, but I think we would have had regardless of what wood we used. We went with carbonized and have lots of windows that gratefully do not show the dust on the floors.

We got the dark jacobean bamboo floors from Lowes I think it was, and they scratch pretty easily. There are pens to colour it in, but I'm glad I only put it in our low traffic master bedroom. I'll do something else through the rest of my house.

In saying that though, they are beautiful looking and enviro friendly. I wouldn't use it in something so high traffic as a kitchen though. We're thinking tile with underfloor heating for our kitchen.
