Chevron or herring bone would be fine but I would fear tiring of it or it looking outdated eventually. Why not go with a plain wood floor and then an area rug in the pattern you love. It can be changed out at any time. Patterned cushions as well will work on the sofa. Good luck!!!!

The chevron and herringbone can be more expensive to install as there is more waste. That said, I have always loved them. They are often in classic pre-war apartments.

Beverly, do you know who made the two samples you pictured. Even if I went with straight planks, these stains are beautiful.

As beseaside mentioned, these floors are found in pre-war apartments. I live in one was built in 1935 in NYC. I never tire of this classic, classy pattern, which is so much richer than a plain running board floor. Also, I have a condo in Florida and have installed porcelain plank tiles in all of the public spaces. I am very happy with it. It is easy care and beautiful. Get something in a medium tone -- too light shows all the dirt; too dark shows all the dust!
