Hi there, Marie. You do not have messaging ticked on so I'll have to ask this here. It feels like yelling across a crowded room lol

Is it possible to graft an obesum scion on to an arabicum stock? Any special tricks I need to know to have it go smoothly? Thanks in advance.

Pagan, I hope you and of course Marie do not mind me pocking my nose in here.

I grafted a Swazicum scion (cleft graft) onto an Arabicum rootstock following Marie's technique and it worked wonderfully. Also, grafted a Arabicum scion (flat graft) onto a Obesum rootstock. It also has done very well.

Swazicum to Arabicum not really the best idea, as swazicums tend to grow much quicker than does the Arabicum.

Oh poke away, Rick! That's great insight, it's exactly the kind of information I needed. I'm setting up for a frankendenium project. I suppose the question now is how fast the specific arabicum cultivar will grow as a rootstock.

My SwazicumxArabicum is growing, but most of it is the Swazicum getting away on me.

The Arabicumxobesum is somewhat slow. It lost it's leaves and now growing back. Not sure what to expect from the one.

Rick, every time you post a picture, there is always something interesting in the background. In this one, for example, may I have a close-up of that thing with the fangs?

Yes, you can graft obesum to an arabicum rootstock. I did 5 obesum on arabicum and they all took. Only it is slow in growing tall. 3 years old scions and they only about 7 inches long. Compare to others grafting branches.

Pagan, The Fang thing is a fish made from a Coconut shell.

We picked it up at the Maui Swap Meet (Maui College grounds) Kahului, Maui. One of our favorite places to go and get fresh produce and fruits.

Could not resist this.

It was so unusual and would be a topic of conversation.
