Design ideas for foyer

I am looking for ideas on how to decorate the wall by the stairway as well as a new chandelier. I would say my style is transitional and casual and don't want anything with too much bling. While I don't like the current chandelier, I do like that it has both down and uplights so it really lights up the foyer.

We've lived here for 2 years and I still can't figure out what to put on that wall! Should I leave it blank? It's such a huge wall and because of the stairs, it's tough to put a large painting there. I've thought of putting 3 photos or paintings following the angle of the stairs, but haven't been able to find anything I like yet. I have some black and white photos, but they looked too boring on a tan wall. I thought maybe something with geometrical patterns/shapes might be good, but don't know where to look for something in that scale. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure why you don't like the chandelier.............maybe the quality of the light when it's turned on? from Visual Compfort. As decorative metal wall decor, that one in the hallway IMO looks cheap and doesn't fit the architecture of your home.

Black and white photos in black frames would go well with your ironwork decor. I'd consider painting the staircase black for drama. I also think your current chandelier is nice.

I understand why you don't like the chandelier because I think there are better options than those bulbs for your 2-story foyer. I also think the chandelier is hung too low and too far to the left so its lines are competing with the lines of the railing spindles and it also looks off centered. It appears it could be moved up and to the right and still show through the center front window. As far as wall decor on the stairs wall, I think framed photos will be too small and cluttered and one large enough piece of art will have to be hung too high. I would do 3 large vertical pieces of art about the width of the stairs and stepped up to follow the line of the stairs. I would also replace the round piece of metal art on the lower left wall with a vertical piece of art in a less ornate style.

...and as far as a new chandelier, I would get one with a height and width at least as much as your current one; otherwise, I think it will look too small.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! I also never considered changing the height & position of the chandelier, but you are right! I will check out the videos and try different combinations for the wall art.

You might want to consider painting your railing black. It would add a richness. replace it with something multi- tiered to better balance against the size of the room.
