Love my neighbor, but...

I don't like the view. I want a natural privacy screen but I don't want invasive bamboo growing in my side yard. Trees are out of the question because the space is narrow and regularly traveled.

Any suggestions?

You could do bamboo growing in large pots. Not all bamboo spreads like wild fire, there are some kind that don't, I think that is call "clumping bamboo".

Frame out a piece of lattice to fit on top of ledge. Stain it same as fence. Or you could remove a few inches of the dog ear and replace with framed lattice 12 -18 inches tall.

I agree with angel, especially with a space this small I would do some clumping bamboo, small trees, or climbing vines with trellises in pots along the fence wall.

The horizontal piece of your fence should be wide enough to attach flower boxes to. Add a trellis to the inside of the box and plant a vine type plant in the box that will climb the trellis.
