We are renovating a house we just purchased and the stairs used to have carpet on them.

Now that the carpet is removed the wood that is there is pine. I have heard that it is not wise to stain pine since it is a very soft wood so we are thinking of carpeting.

I would like other suggestions of what to do instead of carpeting. Any good ideas?
