Quilt donations for California fire victims

Does anyone know if any organizations are collecting quilts for the CA fire victims? I have two tops about to be quilted and would love to send them where they could be used.

Thanks!

Donna

I'm sure Project Linus has someone collecting donations, too.

The relief efforts are all being managed by the Red Cross. They are not even letting local volunteers bring in donated clothes. They insist on gathering only money. Lots of local outrage. So, if there is an organization doing quilts, it will be outside that system and maybe local. I am close by and watch all the reports so will see if something pops up and let you know.

Thank you, ladies. It will be a few weeks before they are finished.

Now that people are allowed back into their home sites, help is getting better organized. Regarding quilts, I am due to hear soon about one particular opportunity that might work well for some of you.

The children started back to school this last week, many without homes. A local quilt shop is trying to get permission to gather about 400 small lap quilt size quilts, one for each of the elementary school students. These are children from 1 to 4 grades. She already has collected a bunch for the adults there and is just waiting to hear if the school will allow this.

She has promised to let us know as soon as approved and if so, I will forward her quilt shop address for them to be shipped to. This is great for most of us. Turning out small quilts is much easier than king size. And, it's a shop I know and trust as several of us have taken classes there.

I promise to let you know as soon as I am notified.

Thanks for the info, Linda. I'm interested to know. I know we can't help everyone, but it sure would be nice if the shops/guilds could get something going for all the schools with kids who have lost their homes or are displaced.

And, I'm starting one anyway. This woman gives donated quilts to hospice patients and charities all year long so I'll send her something in any case. She'll find a good home for anything you send I'm sure.

And, it is fair to say you may share this with your local guilds.

Just an update, she's sent off the first 100 to the school and is still gathering from quilters all over the bay area. Her goal is only another 200 by Nov 18th. All the guilds around here are working on it.
