I-Spy Quilt

A friend is expecting her first grandson, so I made this for her this weekend and finished the binding today. Baby is due at the end of October, so I made it in time! Some of the fabric came from Beverly (grammyp) and others who were getting rid of blocks earlier this year. Thanks!

I guess an I spy can be made with any pattern that has large enough squares to be able to find things. I did this one earlier this month and Logan can search for giraffes, elephants and a host of other animals, as well as stars, stars, stars.

I have to remember to make an I Spy quilt next time I make a baby quilt. Or maybe I should make one now to have handy....you think?

Is there a specific pattern used for the I Spy quilt or do you just determine the size of the block and go from there? Thanks.

carolnv, There are numerous ways of making an I Spy quilt, but I like how Sue has made this one. It looks clean and sharp with the squares separated by a good sized sashing. You can Google I Spy quilts and get various ways of using novelty squares.

Carolnv - these were just 5" squares, 2-1/2" sashing. I have made lots of different I-spy quilts! I have used the disappearing 9-patch pattern and placed the novelty squares in the corners so they don't get cut. No rules - just have fun!

Thanks for the input. I have some Star Wars fabric and am thinking this might be a good quilt to make for a young boy.
