Sure you can use any other dried fruit as a sub for them. Just depends on the taste you are after. My personal preference would be the apricots.

Dried Cranberries might work as well. You can get them in several flavors, cherry being one of them.

I ended up sing halg apricots, a quarter peaches and a quarter raisins because that's what I had on hand in the dried fruit dept. I should say that chopping dried apricots in a food processor is more trouble than its worth, but the end result was pretty yummy.
