Does this sound right?

We just bought these 2 pieces of ivory colored leather couches for our family room. our room is pretty dark. we will be getting a new light fixture as well as lamp not sure in well get table lamps or floor lamps. I plan to get one possibly 2 accent chairs in Turquoise or royal blue (when I find them that is). provided i find a turquoise accent chair what colour should I go for curtains? I was thinking mustard Yellow curtains and mustard yellow cushions paired with turquoise cushions. Would that look nice? Solid coloured curtains or a print? based on that what color rug should i get? and also should it be solid or a print? we plan to paint the walls a taupish color. Thoughts ? Opinions?

Thanks havingfun! just want to make sure I have the right idea. these are some photos for inspiration

I am not sure I am nuts about the silver band on the one shade, and all your pics look upgraded from the wicker shade, no?

How about neutral curtains and chairs but add you color with the accent pillows and accent pieces. Then when you get tired or your mood changes you wont have wasted a lot of money on the chairs in color.

Another question, it looks like the fireplace brick is more tan, will that go with the gray.

havingfun I like your choices but they're not me. in terms of lighting what do you suggest? im thinking the room needs gold/bronze lighting if I go turquoise /mustard yellow route?
Lisa the room is just too boring with all neutrals! I don't mind putting money into an accent chair that could be changed in a few years time if I bore of it.
havingfun yes brick is tanish in colour. you don't think taupe would go with it?
havingfun what wall color do u suggest for the brick? I'm open to suggestions.

Ok, i agree taupe will go, but the color on my screen was gray. Lovely but that is why I was asking if you thought the brick would go. Any of these strike your fancy, i took down the things you did not want.

I have no problem with the drum pendent, I was just not thinking the chrome went well with the whole mustard yellow look?

reds, teals, golds, black and white, even dark blue go well with it.

so maybe you really only want white, with a little black and then light brush strokes of the gold and teal.

s_m where you at in this design? I think this might be more in keeping with what you want, except taupe, i found nothing in all my rooms but this one. i think we will have a hard time making it look what shall we say, tailored, regal? enough if we flair into other colors. what do you think?

since, i don't think i gave you enough pizzazz on the lights , I will try again. threw the old ones away, will return in you want.

i remember a couple times people have wanted two accent walls, which is what you end up with. 2 carob, one blue and one brick. The designers said that it will make the room look smaller. it is a lovely blue will go well with furnishings and fireplace brick. you probably have to choose? carob with white is more sophisticated. The blue is more fun loving and light. It might feel more family like.

I lean towards the second or 3rd rug. If you go with the blue above, definitely lean towards 3rd. and actually if you went with the blue, even with the yellow it would bring that drum chandalier or the rattan fixture as better looks, no?

Oh, and i did not forget, i have been shopping for rugs for you. I have had this one.the bottom two or new. the store ships for free i think and lets you test drive before you keep it. what do you think. I am not normally big on modern, but i do like these. the colors are in your design. And I have to say that I am liking the blue for the direction the room has been going, it is like growing on me. talk tomorrow!

Yes 2 carob one teal and one brick.....that's my concern will it make room smaller. .....I don't want that obviously.

loving the blue rug but the interior designer we brought in a yr ago recommended to go light on the rug to make room appear bigger and brighter. so you're not a fan of blue and cream chevron one then?

the first rug you posted I just couldn't do too much wow factor lol . I could consider 2nd but not 3rd don't like the square look
  • 10 years ago
the rugs you posted ,what's the website? I wonder if they ship to Canada as that's where I am.

I am so sorry, i do not know why I did not get this. it is Rugsdirect.com and yes they ship to Canada at a discount. I am really impressed by what they say. Did you decide between the two paints? Of course if you do blue on walls you could go darker with rug? i do like that one, it is just growing on me all the time. I will go look more for you. but have been having problems finding teal especially light and bright.
