Normally, I am not a natural wood stain person, but the your room looks interesting. I would start first by paint the walls and ceiling the same color, leaving the trim as is and see how you like it. The color I suggest is BM November Rain...it looks wonderfully rich, but simple, with wood. The pain isn't quite white...has a slight green understone which would look perfect with your darker green.

What about color matching the wall behind the fireplace the same grey-taupe of the stone so it blends together. You could then stain/paint the pine mantle to match your furnishings (black? Dark Brown?) or replace it with something more substantial/thicker, as it seems a little too small. Either way the pine will look good being painted over or even removed on that feature wall.

The wall is beautiful . The fire place is the focal point of the room . The flat screen should be under the mantel so the room start making sense . Painting the wood will destroy the unique structure and architecture . The wall next to the fire place should be empty , no furniture . Once you put the tv in the fire place , you can step back and organize with balance. Sofa in front on fire place , chairs on sides. Less is more.☺️

Fire place wall, paint in color, iron gate color (mq2-60) by marquee. Side walls ( mq2-59) moldings and window same color ask the fireplace. I look at the wood and it could do better with color .

Im not sure what's opposite the fireplace (is it open or is there another wall?) but the current tv placement is a bit awkward because you'll have glare from the window and it detracts from the fireplace. I love Wood but don't think this Wood is doing anything great for the room, I'd paint out the trim to match the rest of the house and visually expand the fireplace by adding stone to the wall. If i was going to keep the wood, its stain it. I'd also eliminate the mantel.

I agree with Judi above. Paint the walls first and see how you like it. I think it's fine for a family room to be different and more casual than formal areas of the home.

I think it depends on whether or not you enjoy a cottage/cabin vibe, which is what's going on in the room now. If it were me, I would paint everything out in a soft grey, to match the stonework. I really like midatlantic's suggestions and rendering of your room.
