Wood blinds have a totally different "feel" compared to Silhouettes.

I love both, have sold both numerous times in my previous career, and continually install both on a regular basis.

If you are concerned about having a "consistent look" from the outside, then go with the Silhouettes. Otherwise I'd say go with the product that "feels right" for the room - and that may not be blinds, it might be roman shades, or even plantation shutters.

I would recommend the silhouette Type blind . Hunter Douglas has a sister company called Shadeomatic they carry the same "silhouette" blind but they call it Horizontal sheers. They look almost identical to the Hunter ones and the price is usually less then half.

If your budget allows, I would recommend Silhouettes as they are easier to maintain and look beautiful. They also are able to control light and offer UV protection.

I would recommend you look at Hunter Douglas Nantucket Shades. The price is lower because it has fewer options, but they are nearly identical. Starting September 15 I think Hunter Douglas will offer rebates. Check out Hunterdouglas.com for more information.

Silhouette's often are a customer favorite until they see the price tag. As previously mentioned there are alternative manufacturers that make a similar product. A sheer shade, or silhouette gives a softer look, and when they are open, are nearly invisible(they roll up into a color coordinated cassette) - wood blinds have a harder, heavier look, can feel more casual, and depending on the size of your windows can be quite intrusive when opened. Most people just tilt the vanes rather than pull them up. When the shade is set to allow light and view, you still get UV protection, because the light is filtered by the sheer fabric - where as with the wood blind you have direct sunlight through the slats.

Former installer here, Silhouettes are the gold standard, hand operated shade work well I would steer clear of any motorized solutions, the designers I'm sure will disagree but they are to probablematic for me. Wood blinds are nice, will always work and are cost effective.
